There aren't many effects pedals that are as well loved as the tape echo machines from years ago that produced legendary warm, thick sounds. These days, it's almost impossible to find these vintage effects and even if you do, they're expensive and not easy to use either. A much better idea is to get your hands on a TC Electronic Gauss Tape Echo effects pedal which offers the same sounds, is much easier to use and it's attractively priced too!
Gauss Tape Echo: vintage tone, modern technology
The Gauss Tape Echo makes use of an intuitive tone control allowing you to determine the delay time, the sustain and the volume. The algorithm then allows you to create powerful pitch dives and self-oscillating psychedelic spirals. The built-in mod switch is an added bonus with which you can go from a crystal-clear echo to subtle warm modulation.

Degelijke delay met goed geluid en een strak uiterlijk.
Dankzij de metalen behuizing voelt dit pedaal zeer solide aan, ook de knoppen waarmee je een scala aan bruikbare instellingen kan indraaien zijn van hoge kwaliteit, de stompswitch werkt vloeiend en geruisloos wat de kwaliteit alleen maar ten goede komt.
Aandachtspuntjes zijn het formaat, het pedaal is net een slag groter dan standaard (BOSS, Ibanez, MXR, e.d.) wat het indelen van je pedalboard net wat lastiger kan maken; derentegen zitten alle aansluitingen (in, uit en voeding) aan de bovenzeide waardoog het pedaal strak tegen de hiernaast geplaatste effecprocessor geplaatst kan worden, daarnaast is de modulatie in mijn beleving wel heel erg subtiel (tegen het onhoorbare aan). Wel bestaat de optie om de voeding via een 9V batterij te leveren (hiervoor moet het pedaal geopend worden door middel van de 4 schroefjes aan weerszeiden).
Al met al hoge kwaliteit voor een in relatief lage prijs!
Klank is goed, degelijke constructie! Terugval in volume van 'true bypass' naar "on" vind ik niet storend
Het bereik van de delay (time) is zeer bruikbaar - passend bij het 'tape' effect (van korte slap back tot en met psychedelische opstapelingen)
De volume knop is tot halverwege bruikbaar, daarna wordt de echo luider dan het directe signaal (voor mij muzikaal niet bruikbaar) maar misschien voor sommige mensen die het effect 100% in een loop willen bijv.
Sustain knop is repeats/feed-back dus van 1 repeat tot "oneindig" (waar elke herhaling wat korreliger wordt)
Mod knop doet ook bij mij eigenlijk niets hoorbaars
Geloofwaardige "tape" sound zonder poespas voor 'n fijne prijs...
NB: Een extra aansluiting voor externe expressie pedaal (voor sustain of time) was wel heel tof geweest op dit pedaal!!
Lekker geluid, doet wat hij moet doen.
Nostalgie!!!!
Heel erg tevreden met de tape echo. Ik gebruik hem als een soort verlengstuk van mijn versterker: hij staat altijd aan als ik speel. De behuizing is stevig, de knoppen draaien niet te makkelijk mocht je er met je voet tegenaan komen en het effect klinkt goed.
Hij is perfect voor de vroege-rockabilly die ik speel, de echo klinkt authentiek zoals op de platen uit de jaren 50. Ik ben er nog niet achter wat de mod-knop doet. Of hij is bij mij stuk, of het effect daarvan is dusdanig subtiel dat ik het niet hoor. Nodig is hij in ieder geval niet, het geluid is sowieso goed.

This pedal sounds great, is well-made, operates on a 9V battery, and is relatively inexpensive. All good things. The problem is, it makes a loud pop when you switch it in and out. Don't know if mine's defective or not, but it renders the pedal useless in a live situation.
